Removal of 2 off 5 ton Generators.

These photographs are of a project carried out by using a method of lowering and then at a later date lifting two generators from beneath a vessel within a basement plantroom at a large NHS Hospital in the north of the country.

There was no other way to carry out this project using modern techniques.

This method is called a birdcage (In USA they refer to it as a crib) a construction made of large timbers (many years ago old railway sleepers were used) criss-crossed to construct a base then the item of plant or machinery is jacked down or up using the birdcage as the base.

The photograph of one of our vehicles shows one of the generatore leaving site to be delivered to an engineering company for a major overhaul.
